MITROVICA; CHRONICLE OF A DEATH FORETOLD? (2003)

In 2004 tensions flared after an outbreak of violence across Kosovo. ESI made a set of proposals. Now, the Mitrovica bridge is being re-furbished, so it can re-open as part of an EU-brokered Serbia-Kosovo peace agreement.

In minutes of seeing the film at the start of an internation conference, local leaders and western donors all agreed the strategy of relying on the local Tito-era industry for job creation was over. Western Governments agreed to setup a technical high school to give young people skills.

OVERVIEW

The film's opening challenges assumptions about ethnic divisions in Mitrovica in northern Kosovo. It features three boys, Serbian and Albanian, using each others' languages to describe their home city. The film stimulated discussions that might otherwise not have happened on the city's future at a major conference; the boys helped break the ice.....
